South Boston Massachusetts Condos

The South Boston real estate market has been developing heavily over the last 5-10 years, and there are even bigger changes in the near future.  South Boston, commonly referred to as “Southie”, is in a unique location south of the Fort Point Channel and abutting Dorchester Bay.  Although it has been traditionally an Irish-American neibhorhood, many young professionals and families have recently been purchasing South Boston real estate.  Being just moments from downtown Boston, as well as a gateway to the South Shore and Cape Cod, this area is very practical for many residents.  Although the gentrification of South Boston has been significant, the area still retains its class and appeal.  The majority of South Boston condos have been multi-story houses that have been converted over the last several years.  However, in the upcoming years many projects, already underway, will result in gorgeous high rise South Boston condo buildings put up right along the Boston waterfront.

Buying a South Boston condo can become simpler when the buyer knows on which side of Southie they prefer to live.  South Boston’s east side stretches to the end of what once was called “Dorchester Neck”.  During the summer kite boarders fill the Fish-bowl, a small bay that is surrounded by jetti’s and bridges, which also provides a fantastic jog route.  The East side has a bustling commerical area on East Broadway, filled with markets, restaurants, and businesses.  By following L Street, which quickly becomes Summer Street, people can be in the city within moments, arriving right near South Station in the leather district.  South Boston’s west side is closer to Dorchester, the South End, and Chinatown.  It is also home to Andrew Square.  Although both sides of Southie are covered with bus routes, only the west side provides easy access to the two subway stops, “Broadway” and “Andrew Square”.

South Boston is enriched with history and culture.  In 1776 George Washington meticulously positioned his army’s canons, forcing the British to evacuate Boston for good.  Through the years, the area has seen many changes, but many people associate the area with the glorious Saint Patrick’s Day parade held every year.
