Boston downtown real estate is ready to explode as the “Big-Dig” is finally culminating. The downtown Boston condo market is roughly made up of the Financial District, residences along the east side of the common, and the Leather District. There are several pristine condo buildings scattered throughout this geographic area, but there are also newer and smaller buildings that cater to the new loft fad. The true agenda of the “Big-Dig” was always to reconnect Boston neighborhoods by burying the central artery (I93) which ran right through the middle of the city. The increasing desires to reside in Midtown / Leather District condos are a direct result. The Financial District, including Government Center, International Place, Post Office Square, and Exchange Place, is home to many large corporations and law firms. Companies with main headquarters here include Putnam Investments, Fidelity Investments, Scudder Investments, and the Boston Stock Exchange. Boston Common condos offer an excellent view of the country’s oldest city park. In the near distance is the Public Garden, with swan boat rides all summer long, and the beginnings of Newbury St. and Commonwealth Ave. The Common has harbored many events of the years, including speeches by Pope John Paul II and Martin Luther King. The Boston Leather District is just starting to regain its appeal. At the end of the 18th century, this area was a low-rent commercial neighborhood for the shoe and leather industry, thus earning its name. However, as this area will be bumped up against the Rose Kennedy Greenway, many lofts and condominiums are being sprung up. There is now a wide selections of condos to chose from in the Midtown / Leather District areas of Boston. |
