Chestnut Hill is six miles west of downtown Boston, widely known for its stately old homes, scenic landscape and nearby campus of Boston College. It "encompasses" parts of the town of Brookline, neighborhoods of Brighton, West Roxbury and other areas of Newton's thirteen villages in Middlesex County. It is becoming an increasing mixture of the old and the new: Condo versions of older homes, apartments, and new developments have risen to change the landscape and offer more housing options for an upscale, educated area that continues to set a standard.
Chestnut Hill is listed with the National Register of Historic Places. Many of the mansions, stately homes, scenic landscapes and the historic architecture of surrounding Boston College lend to quiet established neighborhoods filled with examples of Colonial, Italianate, Shingle, Tudor, and Victorian designs that are now more frequently the facade of town house and condo conversions. Residents have continued to change with the times but much of the architecture is still reminiscent of its golden era and many old and new buyers are content with keeping it as is.
Condominiums in Chestnut Hill run a wide range from studios and one bedrooms to three bedrooms with multiple baths. Most condo projects are in converted landmarks, museums, mansions, carriage houses or on individual floors of what were larger residences. Well known names like The Waterworks, Landmark Tower, Hammonds, Museum Residences and Watermark Courtyard are a few high end condominium conversions with availability. Higher end condos make the majority of inventory in Chestnut Hill. Prize three or two bedroom units can be on the water front or general vicinity of historic buildings, landmarks or projects that are selling units after completion and before breaking ground. These residences have set the standard with a wide variety of amenities: golf, tennis, fitness centers, theatres, saunas, sundecks, dining rooms and fire places just to name a few. These condominium developments now form the standard for what Chestnut Hill offers in condominium living. Whether you are in a converted condominium or new high rise condo buyers are evaluating them by similar standards: panoramic views, balconies, marble laid bathrooms and kitchens, finished had wood floors, full length glass windows, dens, walk in closets, a concierge and much, much more.
Chestnut Hill is a buzz with malls, large and small businesses. There are three malls in the area: The Atrium, Mall At Chestnut Hill and Chestnut Hill Shopping Center. The Atrium on Boylston is a high end mall amid offices, commercial space, and condo conversions. It caters to urban professionals and kids with means. The majority of stores sell home furnishings and women's apparel. Names like Eileen Fisher, Barney's New York, Cole Haan, Montblanc and Bloomingdales appear on the directory. There are four gourmet restaurants, gardens, and outdoor music while you stroll through the neighborhood. The Tower, a condo conversion project sits across the street with other condo options around the neighborhood.
Chestnut Hill has all of the cultural options of nearby Boston to enjoy as well as a wealth of its own. Pine Manor College and Arthur D. Little School of Management also contribute to its identity and Chestnut Hill's continued population. Condominium buyers come to Chestnut Hill to go to school, enjoy their homes and the short commute from Boston,
and all the other amenities there in. Chestnut Hills condominium inventory will continue to rise as residents come to take advantage of a growing economy and a condominium market. Jobs in network systems data communications, computer software programming, health care ,biomedical engineering and supporting technologies will also contribute to population growth
as more new residents considering the wide variety of condo options.
