Arlington was founded in 1635, initially called Menotomy, an Indian word meaning “swiftly running water.” Later it was renamed with part of Belmont and Cambridge as West Cambridge. It was finally changed to Arlington in honor of soldiers who died in Arlington, VA. Route 2 allows for a short commute to Boston and western Massachusetts. Arlington has preserved many of its historic buildings, recreating the town common and converting many older buildings to condominiums. It is just six miles west of Boston and the cultural smorgasbord it offers: historic districts, restaurants, shops, and museums and much, much more. Check, your condo may be a part of history.

The modern, developing community was founded 350 years ago. Condominium conversions and few new developments are scattered throughout. Arlington is the birth place of Uncle Sam as well as the opening actions for the revolutionary war when the British returned from Old North Bridge. Condominium conversions have developed from apartment buildings, mansions, and multi-family units to satisfy a growing, more diverse population. Plenty of schools, recreational facilities, churches and parks compliment existing landscapes. The town continues to adapt with changing times, increased spending, diversity planning, education, business, the environment and converting existing residential units: apartments and town homes to condominiums.

Massachusetts Avenue is a busy thoroughfare that stretches all the way from Boston out to Arlington. It is speckled with landmarks like the Arlington Center, Chamber of Commerce and Jason Russell House. Many condo conversions sit along Massachusetts Ave. within walking distance from businesses, restaurants, artist studios, offices, churches, and banks. Many are mansions and apartment buildings that have been converted to condos. They represent many popular styles of architecture from the mid 1800s on: Italianate, Greek Revival, Victorian, Bungalow, Queen Anne and Classical Revival. One good reason to buy a condo in Arlington is the rich history and architecture that present conversions of older buildings offer for modern day citizens. They form newly popular neighborhoods dotted with restaurants, parks, clubs, fields, beauty shops, salons and a whole lot more.

Massachusetts Avenue is home to many recently converted condominiums. With names like The Kentwood, Avenue 264, Massachusetts Avenue, Russell Place, Mill Street, Heritage Square and Minute Men Crossing it is where condominium conversions have become most popular. They have ushered in a new era and make the most of the surrounding architecture along what is still a busy street with varying views of the Boston skyline. There aren’t many new buildings complete with saunas, fitness rooms, and pools but there are some. Older buildings, multi-family units and town homes make up the majority. Job growth and lack of space have prompted people to buy. Manufacturing, telecommunications, electrical equipment, textiles, metal, dairy products and poultry make up local industry.
